What It Means to Be a Leader
And the mistakes some leaders make.
A lot of people seem to be confused about what it means to be a proper leader.
Whether you’re a boss, a manager, or in whatever position of authority, it is paramount that you set the right example for those in your charge.
Too often do I see in this day and age a lack of appropriate qualities in those in charge. Many lack empathy. Many lack respect. Many enjoy throwing their weight around, and bullying their subordinates.
Make no mistake: exhibiting these qualities does NOT make you a leader. Acting this way does NOT garner you the respect you need in order to effectively lead people.
People are afraid of power. Power isn’t the problem: it’s the people who have it that we need to be concerned about.
Where some leaders fail, in which case they aren’t leaders at all, we must rise by demonstrating good values, and exercising what is right.
Treat people with respect. Be kind. Be empathetic. Be willing to give a helping hand rather than swat people away, and mock them for not knowing better.
