Thank you for your detailed reply Can. It seems our experiences have been a little different.
I'm not sure I've been exposed to master instructors explicitly expecting their students to make it a priority to "keep the school going." One school I attended didn't seem to take issue with a senior instructor, who was also one of the high-ranking students of the school's owner, leaving the school to pursue his own education. He quit coaching cold turkey and was one of the best, longest-staying coaches. Maybe there were some backroom conversations I didn't hear, but at least on the surface, it didn't seem to be a problem.
The babysitting situation was definitely unfair to you. The teacher shouldn't have accepted the responsibility and most certainly shouldn't have pawned it off to you.
I also haven't been exposed to toxic positivity in the martial arts realm. I am aware that it exists, but I argue that it's not a martial arts-exclusive form of toxicity.
I've also taken Taekwondo as a kid, but I was not privy to any corruption in leadership. But then again, I was but a kid.
