I think dating is harder than it ever has been, and this is especially thanks to dating apps. They've turned people into commodities that you window-shop for. Most of the time, forget trying to get to know someone through them if you're not physically attractive enough for them; they'll never swipe right on you.
My viewpoint sounds somewhat pessimistic, but I think it's realistic. People get so disconnected from each other behind the screens. They're just looking at digital images of you, and so they're not there with you in person to witness the real-time consequences of their actions and behaviors. They also lose touch with socially appropriate behavior for this reason.
I've found some level of success through dating apps myself, but I would very, very much rather meet someone organically in person and get to know them that way first than through an app.
