Dubious devices and deceit

A story heavily inspired by one I read in elementary school.

“What’s this guy’s deal?”
“Do you think he’s insane?”
“Ugh, I wish he would just hurry up already.”

The crowd whispered amongst each other as they waited for the man to begin his demonstration.

The man jumped up on the hood of his car.

“Attention everybody! My name is Oliver, and today, I would like to showcase my latest invention: Oliver’s Odd Ooze!”

Oliver reached behind him and picked up a jar containing a turquoise-colored liquid, which rested on the roof of his car. He opened the jar, which made a pop! noise, and poured the liquid out onto the ground.
“Yep, he’s crazy,” whispered an onlooker.
“Shh! Give him a chance!” hissed another.

“This ooze can transform into just about anything you need it to. Ooze, hammer!” Oliver commanded.

The crowd’s eyes narrowed as the ooze started to pull itself together into the shape of a hammer. Several gasps rose from the masses as what…
