Don’t Discredit: It’s Disrespectful

Give credit where credit is due.

We touched upon the power and danger of attention in a previous podcast episode, but in this article, we’re going to expand upon it, and talk about how discrediting someone’s work entirely or dismissing the fruits of one’s labor to deception or luck can set someone off.

And rightfully so.

The YouTuber that inspired me to create this article is Etika, who is sadly no longer with us. In one of his video clips I stumbled upon in a fan’s channel, I witnessed him blowing up on his livestream when someone in the chat said:

“Stop donating to Etika, he’s using us for money.”

Etika then proceeded to go on a tirade (but not before smashing a liquor bottle in anger) and erupted with what seemed to be pent-up frustration towards some of his viewers who continually dismissed the fruits of his labor, in this case, to deception.

Etika’s been doing YouTube since 2006 (when he was still in high school), and it’s clear as day to anyone who’s been watching him for any amount of time:
