Addressing Generalizations Towards Gen Z
Time to go big brother on these comments I found.
Gary Vaynerchuk made a post on Instagram talking about why Gen Z isn’t lazy, and I wasn’t surprised to find some rather sweeping and frankly degrading comments towards Gen Z.
As an older member of and content creator for Gen Z, part of me likes to play the big brother role for my fellow youth, so I naturally get a little defensive when people make unfair generalizations about my generation.
I want to make it clear that I’m very much against “us vs. them” mentalities and I do not want to contribute to unnecessary division and segregation, but I felt inspired to write this to put an end to some frankly unnecessary condescension.
I’ll list and respond to five comments I found in the post below.
“Not lazy but some want instant gratification.”
That’s fair, because you said “some.”
My biggest gripe about generalizations is that they’re pretty much all untrue because they make an umbrella statement that supposedly applies to every single individual within a category.
